Al Mustaqil dal 2019 è il progetto solista di Jacopo Andreini (l'enfance rouge, Squarcicatrici, Tsigoti, Jealousy Party, Ovo e molto altro). Con bouzouki imbastarditi (costruiti da Humonkey Instruments, Atene), percussioni, giradischi ed elettronica mescola le tre musiche che piacciono a noi ragazzi mediterranei: rebetiko, metal e electro. Con l'aiuto di ospiti che aiutano ad allargare l'orizzonte sonoro e politico del progetto, Al Mustaqil è un veicolo per dare spazio alle voci di attivisti dell'area mediterranea con cui è in contatto.
Dopo il primo album Harraga (2020), uscito prima in t-shirt e canottiera e successivamente ristampato su CD da stella*nera e Don't Hush Now (2020) un singolo disponibile soltanto ai concerti, il nuovo EP è un concept sulla sorveglianza e la punizione, per citare Foucault. Con il prezioso contributo alle voci e ai testi di Livia Monteleone (Dirty Trainload, Behind Bars), Marzouk Mejri (Fanfara Station) e Ruben Camillas (I Camillas) espone la sua visione attraverso composizioni originali, improvvisazione e personalissimi arrangiamenti di canzoni di prigione (I Philakes tou Oropou di Yorghis Batis del 1928 e Fi Boudeffa di Salah Khemissi del 1956).
La grafica è opera di Gigi Fagni e il logo di Boshra Jallali.

DAL VIVO Al Mustaqil, oltre a tutti gli strumenti sopra elencati, porta sul palco la sua video orchestra di musicisti e attivisti, con aggiornamenti spesso quotidiani dei messaggi audio/video dai diversi porti del mediterraneo.
